TRADE PU350 FLOOR PAINT – 205 Litre Barrel

Marl Coatings PU350 Supercoat – Heavy-Duty, High-Impact Polyurethane Floor Paint

This is our premium heavy-duty product, specifically designed for extreme industrial use. Unlike our other floor paints meant for domestic or light industrial purposes, the PU350 is built for maximum durability and performance.

Product Performance Overview:

For a floor coating to be suitable for industrial environments, it must be tough and resistant to:

  • Abrasion and wear caused by forklift trucks, pallet trucks, cars, 4x4s, and other vehicle movements.
  • Static loads from stacked pallets, machinery, and other heavy equipment.
  • Chemical and liquid spillages, such as water, oils, cutting agents, mild acids, wheel/brake cleaners, engine coolants, brake fluids, and some fuels.
(Note: These substances must not be left to sit on the surface. While the paint can resist short-term exposure, prolonged contact may cause damage.)

Most factory floors are reinforced concrete, which must be structurally sound to support these uses.

Primary Functions:

  • Strengthens and improves the surface of the floor.
  • Eliminates dust build-up.
(A pre-seal primer is recommended on dusty or unpainted areas.)
  • Increases abrasion and wear resistance.
  • Adds chemical resistance.
  • Enhances appearance and working environment.
  • Speeds up cleaning and reduces dust on stock and surfaces.
  • Allows area marking (e.g., walkways, parking bays, routes).

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. Can I use this on a power-floated or screeded floor?
Yes, but the surface must be acid-etched first.
  2. My concrete slab is 4 weeks old. Can I paint it?
Wait at least 12 weeks for full curing before painting.
  3. What is Pre-Seal?
It’s a primer that improves adhesion and coating life.
  4. Is this floor paint waterproof?
No, it does not provide waterproofing.
  5. Will this give a high-gloss finish?
It provides a semi-gloss finish to reduce slip hazards.
  6. Will it fill cracks and gaps?
It may bridge fine cracks but will not fill large gaps. Use a filler first.
  7. Can I apply Pre-Seal on top of floor paint for a glossy finish?
Pre-Seal is not a final topcoat or clear finish.
  8. Can it resist bleach and anti-bacterial floor soaps?
It resists most materials and speeds up cleaning.
  9. Will it stick to tiled floors?
It may stick to matte tiles if clean and dry. It won’t adhere to gloss tiles.
  10. Can I paint over linoleum?
It won’t adhere to lino or bitumen surfaces.
  11. If I paint on Saturday, will it be dry by Monday?
At 15°C, it’s touch dry in 10–12 hours and through dry in 24.
Wait at least 3 days before full use. Cooler temps extend curing times.
  12. We’ve never painted a floor before. Can you help?
Yes! We can guide you step-by-step. Most surfaces (brick, stone, metal, concrete, wood) are suitable if cleaned and prepped.

    • Power-floated surfaces require acid etching
    • Clean, dry, and dust-free surfaces should be primed with Pre-Seal
    • Apply first coat after Pre-Seal dries (12 hours minimum)
    • Two thin coats are better than one thick coat
  13. How do I use the anti-slip additive?
    • Mix it directly into the first coat or sprinkle it onto the wet surface
    • Allow it to dry, remove excess, then apply a final lock-in coat
(Note: Anti-slip additive only works in combination with floor paint.)

Other Helpful Information:

Testing Surface Readiness:

Drop water on the surface.

  • If absorbed within a few minutes, the surface is ready.
  • If it pools, it needs acid etching or abrasion.

Dusty, Virgin, or Unstable Surfaces:

Use Marl Coatings Pre-Seal for maximum penetration and bonding. This stabilizes the substrate.

Oily or Contaminated Surfaces:

Steam clean and use Marl Coatings Heavy Duty Surface Deep Clean. Once dry, apply Pre-Seal, then the topcoat.

Rising Damp:

Paint will peel if moisture is present. Check for a damp-proof membrane (DPM). If absent, use a damp-proof primer first.

Application Guidance:

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE: APPLYING FLOOR PAINT

  1. CHECK SURFACE SUITABILITY

Before anything, confirm your floor is compatible

  • Suitable surfaces: Concrete, brick, stone, metal, wood
  • Not suitable: Linoleum, bitumen, glossy tiles (unless abraded), or damp surfaces
  1. TEST FOR ABSORPTION & MOISTURE
  • Pour a little water on the floor.
    • If it soaks in within minutes, the surface is absorbent and ready.
    • If water sits/puddles, the surface may be power-floated or sealed – acid etching or mechanical abrasion will be required.
  • For damp testing:
    • Tape down a 30cm x 30cm clear plastic sheet for 24 hours.
    • If condensation appears underneath, damp-proofing is needed before painting.
  1. CLEAN THE FLOOR THOROUGHLY
  • Remove all dust, oil, grease, or debris.
  • Use Marl Coatings Heavy Duty Surface Deep Cleaner for oily or contaminated areas.
  • Allow floor to fully dry before proceeding.
  1. SURFACE PREPARATION
  • For dusty or unstable floors:
Apply Marl Coatings Pre-Seal to stabilise the surface.
  • For smooth/power-floated concrete:
Use an acid etch solution or mechanical abrasion to open the surface.
  • For cracks and holes:
Fill with a suitable floor repair compound. Floor paint will not fill gaps.
  1. APPLY PRE-SEAL (IF REQUIRED)
  • Mix well and apply 1 coat of Pre-Seal Primer.
  • Let it dry until tack-free (around 12 hours) before floor paint application.
  1. MIX THE FLOOR PAINT PROPERLY
  • Use a drill and paddle mixer for a consistent blend.
  • Mix thoroughly for several minutes until uniform.
  1. APPLY THE FIRST COAT OF FLOOR PAINT
  • Use a roller for large areas and a brush for edges.
  • For anti-slip:
    • Option A: Mix dry anti-slip additive into the first coat.
    • Option B: Sprinkle additive on the wet paint, allow to dry, then brush off excess and apply final coat.
  • Let the first coat dry for 24 hours.
  1. APPLY THE SECOND COAT
  • Apply a thin, even coat using the same method.
  • Allow a minimum of 48 hours before full use.
  • Avoid walking or placing heavy objects during this period.
  1. FULL CURE TIME
  • Although dry to the touch in 10–12 hours (at 15°C),
full chemical cure takes up to 7 days.
  • Avoid chemical spills or heavy use until fully cured.

          TIPS FOR SUCCESS

  • Two thin coats are better than one thick coat.
  • Always work in a well-ventilated area.
  • Avoid painting if the temperature is below 10–12°C or if rain/moisture is expected (for exterior applications).
  • Always perform a small test patch first.

  • Coverage: approx. 10 m² per litre (or 107 ft²/litre)
  • Pack Sizes & Coverage (One Coat):
    • 5 L = 50 m²
    • 10 L = 100 m²
    • 20 L = 200 m²
(Always apply two thin coats for best results.)
  • Dry Times @ 15°C:
    • Touch Dry: 10–12 hours
    • Recoat: After 24 hours
    • Full Use: After 48 hours
    • Full Cure: 7 days
  • Work in a well-ventilated area; avoid flames or sparks.

Pre-Application Checks:

  • Test for damp using a taped plastic sheet (30×30 cm) left for 24 hours.
Condensation under the sheet = damp present = prep required.
  • Mix thoroughly with a drill/paddle before use.
  • Virgin or contaminated floors must be cleaned, pre-sealed, and tested before coating.
  • Power-floated or smooth screed must be acid-etched or abraded.
